In een poll van het Amerikaanse magazine Rolling Stone werd Nashville Skyline verkozen tot zijn zesde beste album. Het is ook 1 van zijn meest verkochte albums.
Het bekendste nummer is Lay Lady Lay en het duet met Johnny Cash, Girl From The North Country.
