De singles Californication, Scar Tissue en Otherside werde grote hits voor de band. Californication toonde voor het eerst ook de zachtere kan van de Peppers. Trivial time met Frankie Loosveld.  Welk deel van mijn verhaal klopt niet, deel 1 of 2? Deel 1: Bassist Flea van de Chili Peppers had in juni 1996 bij het invullen van zijn belastingbrief ruzie met zijn boekhouder. Flea wou de kostuums die hij droeg op het podium inbrengen in zijn belastingen als onkosten. Maar de boekhouder wou die niet aanvaarden. Flea kwaad! Dan maar zonder kostuum op het podium! Deel 2: De Red Hot Chili Peppers staan geprogrammeerd op Werchter 1996. Bassist Flea staat naakt op het podium. Het antwoord staat deels in de titel van het twaalfde nummer van dit album. ;-) Blood Sugar Sex Magic is het vijfde album van de Peppers en kwam voor het eerst uit in 1991. In tegenstelling tot het vorige album lieten de Chili Peppers deze keer de stevige gitaren achterwege en werd er gekozen voor een meer melodieuze sound.   Het album leverde met de singles Under The Bridge en het funky Give It Away twee monsterhits op. Mother's Milk is een LP  van de Red Hot Chili Peppers en zorgde voor het eerste succes van de groep in de VS. Mother's Milk zou een ommekeer betekenen. Na de dood van gitarist Hillel Slovak en het vertrek van drummer Jack Irons moest de groep op zoek naar nieuw personeel. Die vonden ze in de jonge John Frusciante en in drummer Chad Smith. Dit tweetal zorgde ook meteen voor een vernieuwde sound. Het album haalde de Billboard 200 en de singles Higher ground (cover van Stevie Wonder), Knock me down en Taste the pain zorgden voor de eerst gouden plaat voor de Amerikaanse band. 'Return of the Dream Canteen' is het tweede album dat de Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2022 uitbrengen. In april verscheen ‘Unlimited Love’. Net als die plaat, werd ook 'Return of the Dream Canteen' geproduceerd door Rick Rubin. De band vertelt: "We went in search of ourselves as the band that we have somehow always been. Just for the fun of it we jammed and learned some old songs. Before long we started the mysterious process of building new songs. A beautiful bit of chemistry meddling that had befriended us hundreds of times along the way. Once we found that slipstream of sound and vision, we just kept mining. With time turned into an elastic waistband of oversized underwear, we had no reason to stop writing and rocking. It felt like a dream. When all was said and done, our moody love for each other and the magic of music had gifted us with more songs than we knew what to do with. Well, we figured it out. 2 double albums released back to back. The second of which is easily as meaningful as the first or should that be reversed. Unlimited Love is het twaalfde studioalbum van de Red Hot Chili Peppers. Het album is een weerzien met 2 oude bekenden. Producer Rick Rubin en gitarist John Frusciante. Het album scoorde voor de band meteen hun eerste topnotering in de Amerikaanse albumcharts sinds 2006.  Het album vertegenwoordigt de verenigde geest van vier individuele zielen die nog steeds onbevreesd de toekomst van hun eeuwige vriendschap en muzikale samenwerking onderzoeken.
